š©š½āš¤Latina feminist at the cross-section of finance and tech
Hey! I'm catching up with you, after 3 months or so.
What happens in the life of a Latina feminist at the cross-section of finance and tech? In my experience, you sometimes get called a ābad feministā or a ābad ally," get invited to be part of big initiatives, sometimes get asked to speak at big tech conferences, read, and make the most of the life hacks you discover along the way.
Updates
In the last 3 months, Iāve embraced more of who I am. Iām human, have a non-asshole policy (which includes all genders and all ethnicities), and I do engage with members of the patriarchy (good people can be white and/or male). And thatās okay.
All Raise, an org led by some of my Midas heroines, invited me to be part of their inaugural Summit. Startup Grind, in partnership with Google for Startups and Silicon Valley Bank, featured me in their VC Corner series. Technolochicas, an initiative by the biggest Latinx media orgs (Televisa + Univision) highlighted my story to encourage more girls to go into STEM.
AI World, AIMed, and the United State of Women invited me to speak this year.
And as per by my Tweets and Blog Posts, Iām enjoying my VC work at Backstage Capital. Our Crew and our Headliners (AKA portfolio companies) have heart, sparkle, and spunk.
Reads
The Art of Saying No. I suggest reading it if you have a bad habit of saying āyesā a lot.
The Dyslexic Advantage. Just like Einstein, Steve Jobs and the majority of entrepreneurs out there, Iām dyslexic. This book was great to highlight the advantage that comes with different brain wiring.
The Monk & The Riddle. If youāre a VC, youāll appreciate Randy Kosimarās book. He is a great storyteller!
Life Hacks
BOSE noise-cancelling headphones changed my life. You will not hear crying babies or annoying conversations on the plane.
Caudalie spray for an āenergizing sensationā on your face. If you have long flights, like me, this is an awesome product to use.
Website Blocker (Beta). If your tech addiction is acting up, as mine does sometimes, this is a solid extension to help us manage.
And, so, if youāre like me, trying to manage your tech addictions, keeping your face energized, while you read your books in silence - or just hustling to do good (or bad) stuff in the world - itās certain that people will always complain. So, just do you, unapologetically.
Truth be told, Iām not an expert at being me unapologetically. I blame social constructs and Giletteās marketing campaign that tricked us into thinking that unshaven legs were not okay.
What are your tips and tricks on being unapologetically you?
Look forward to hearing from you!

PS Happy holidays! May you spend quality time with your family and enjoy delicious food guilt-free.
